The Turbosmart Electronic StraightGate eSG50 External Wastegate represents a major evolution in boost control technology. As the world’s first electronically actuated, butterfly-style external wastegate, the eSG50 delivers exceptional exhaust flow and near-linear valve control across the entire operating range—without springs, diaphragms, or reference hoses.
Unlike traditional poppet-style wastegates, the eSG50 utilizes a zero-offset butterfly valve that allows exhaust gas to pass straight through the valve body rather than turning 90 degrees. This straight-through design dramatically increases flow efficiency, enabling the eSG50 to exceed the flow capability of many conventional 60Â mm wastegates while retaining the control characteristics of a smaller valve.
Electronic actuation is handled by an integrated servo motor and Turbosmart’s zero-backdrive gearbox, allowing precise valve positioning even under extreme exhaust drive pressure. Because the butterfly valve is centrally pivoted and exposed to equal pressure on both sides, the valve is inherently self-balanced, requiring less actuation force and enabling faster response with improved stability at high boost levels.
The eSG50 features full electronic control via a dual H-bridge input and includes onboard sensors for actuator temperature and valve position, available in both analog (0–5V) and digital (PWM) outputs. This allows for advanced boost control strategies, expanded tuning windows, and real-time monitoring. With proper exhaust manifold priority, the StraightGate can provide control from near-zero boost all the way to maximum boost with exceptional repeatability.
Manufactured from high-temperature stainless steel materials and validated in-house, the eSG50 is designed for extreme motorsport environments. Integrated liquid cooling provisions further enhance thermal stability and actuator longevity in high-heat applications.
