🛠️ Installation Guidelines for G-Sport Catalytic Converters

Proper installation is essential to ensure that G-Sport by GESI® catalytic converters deliver reliable performance and emissions compliance. While each converter is engineered for high-performance use, real-world results depend on correct system design, placement, and application matching.

This guide outlines best practices, common mistakes to avoid, and a final installation checklist to help integrators and fabricators build effective, durable exhaust systems using G-Sport catalytic converters.


General Best Practices

✔ Install in or Near OEM Location
For best emissions performance and to reduce the risk of triggering a CEL, converters should be placed in the factory location or as close to it as possible. This ensures proper catalyst light-off and accurate O2 sensor function.

✔ Ensure Leak-Free Installation
All joints before and after the converter should be fully sealed using high-quality welds or clamps. Even small leaks near the converter can impact O2 sensor readings and trigger emissions-related fault codes.

✔ Sensor Positioning
Downstream O2 sensors should be placed appropriately after the converter to monitor catalyst efficiency accurately. Avoid moving sensors too far downstream from their original placement.

✔ Select the Proper Converter Size for Power
Match the converter to the vehicle’s expected power output—not just factory horsepower. Because many vehicles are modified after installation, selecting a converter rated above current power levels helps prevent early failure and ensures long-term durability.

✔ Use Heat Shielding Where Needed
If converters are installed close to sensitive components such as wiring or plastic underbody panels, add heat shielding to prevent thermal damage.

✔ Directional Note — Mid-Bed Only
All G-Sport catalytic converters are non-directional except for Mid-Bed models. Mid-Bed units must be installed in the correct flow direction (as marked on the body) to ensure proper emissions function and O2 sensor accuracy.

✘ Installing the Converter Too Far Downstream
The farther a converter is from the engine, the cooler the exhaust temperature becomes. If it cannot reach light-off temperature, efficiency drops and CELs may be triggered—especially on 2017+ vehicles with sensitive emissions systems.

✘ Using an Undersized Converter
A converter not rated for the vehicle’s power level—or one that doesn’t account for future modifications—raises the likelihood of substrate damage and early failure.

✘ Installing Mid-Bed Units Backwards
Mid-Bed converters feature a dual-brick design with an O2 sensor between them. These must be installed in the correct direction as labeled on the body. Reversing flow will cause emissions failure.
